Organization Isfahan University of Medical Sciences and Health Services provides medical and health sciences education in Isfahan Province. The Vice-Chancellery for Health is responsible for providing health services in all areas of the province, excluding the Kashan district, which has its own Medical University. There are twenty districts in Isfahan province, each with their own health network. District Health Networks, which run the urban and rural health centers, are supervised by the Vice-Chancellery for Health. Rural health centers supervise the health houses and urban health centers supervise the urban health posts. At present, 609 rural health houses deliver services to the rural population of the province. Every rural health house covers a population of 500-2000. Every rural health center covers a population of more than 2000. There are 105 rural, and 185 urban health centers in Isfahan Province. Every urban health center covers a population of 12,500. There is one health center and 4 urban health posts per 50,000 in the urban population. Isfahan University of Medical Sciences and Health Service covers nearly 4 million people, 3.21 million of whom live in urban areas, and 0.77 million in rural areas of the province (2006). Basic Responsibilities: 1. Outlining demographic and geographic characteristics, resources and health priorities in the province 2. Planning and decision-making to address health issues within the framework of state policies and strategies in view of the needs specific to the province 3. Formulating and adjusting health education programs to improve general health in the province 4. Evaluation of the required financial sources and adjustment of the operational budget according to provincial strategies 5. Providing the grounds for the implementation of approved national health policies; supervising the course of activities and controlling the executive functions, evaluating the quality of services and regular inspection of executive units 6. Applying scientific and technological means to increase awareness of diseases; activating timely measures at the time of epidemics or unforeseen outbreaks 7. Daily monitoring of the quality of drinking water in villages and urban areas 8. Supervising the continuous implementation of health projects 9. Scientific and financial support of District Health Networks There are ten units at the Vice-Chancellery for Health which plan and supervise the operations of respective units in District Health Networks.
